Script Video

For this experiential term I learned ASL ( American Sign Language ) which was pretty fun and exciting. What I learned was alphabet, disability, numbers, colors, animals, five w's, transportation, directions, verbs, food, weather, clothing, technology things, furniture things, countries and States. The most challenging part was learning sign language from a deaf teacher. Some signs were difficult to remember because to ask him how to sign made it a little bit more challenging but I liked it that way. I learned more sign language by having a deaf teacher, I experienced the feeling of communicating in a room of silence (NO TALKING) made me think that deaf is pretty hard, kinda peaceful and relaxing.

I love that I had a deaf ASL teacher to teach us because that way I learned more and made me have more respect towards the deaf people. I think that this term was wonderful if we can repeat it again I would say "Yes!" without thinking about it twice. I made a video of me just signing in sing language. see the video below. The purpose of having this experiential term and ASL is to actually learn from the outside and learn something knew because in other schools we don't learn those type of things that we learn here in GCE. What I am proud of is that now I will be able to communicate and know what deaf people are saying.

The ASL video that I made was to thank Thomas for having the time to teach us ASL. For this video I signed my script that I made to sign in the video to introduce and thank Thomas. Making this video made me feel like I was actually talking to someone and actually having/holding a conversation with someone. Being deaf is hard because sometimes us hearing people don't know sign language and don't understand their speech fluently. Not understanding their speech and language is very confusing and also hard. ASL has changed my worldwide view this term by noticing that they were people out their that would like for us to communicate with them. Learning sign language and communicating with a deaf person is something I want to do because deaf people are human just like us ( Hearing People ). I feel that " Yes It Has" changed me because now I know sign language and now I won't be only communicating with hearing people but also deaf people also. This experiential term made me realize that the deaf community is something powerful and big. That sign language is worth the learning, is so much fun having conversations with the deaf. ASL is pretty fun to do and learn because it is also good for a job learning a new language. Having a conversation with someone who is deaf can be very hard, confusing and very frustrated.

I want to give thanks to the Anixter Center because they were very welcoming and also treated us very well. Having us was very nice, I really liked it their. Showing us and explaining what is substance abuse and drugs and when to say NO!.
